Should You Put All of Your Data Eggs into One Cloud Basket?

We’ve all read the recent public cloud use cases – a global organization decides to move large amounts of data and workflows to public cloud services, or in some cases, embraces a single public cloud service as their sole IT infrastructure strategy.

While the single public cloud approach may work for a few specific organizations, is it the right strategy for the countless other organizations that are somewhere in their cloud and digital transformation journeys?

According to a new CloudFoundry survey of 600 IT executives, the answer is a resounding no. The survey reveals the majority of companies are relying on a combination of multiple solutions, including on-premise systems and cloud solutions. Further, only 20 percent of respondents said they were choosing only cloud. To develop new applications as well as evolve their existing applications, 39 percent are using a combination of PaaS, containers and serverless technology for flexibility moving forward. Another survey from RightScale reports that 81 percent of enterprises now have a multi-cloud strategy.
