Posted on January 06, 2014 by Adam Burnham
We hope everyone out there had a great holiday weekend. As you begin to peel yourself away from leftovers and jump back into the business world, we had some good news to share with everyone: Nashua, NH-based 186 Communications has joined the Boston Internet Exchange (BOSIX) by Markley. The full press release will cross the newswire Tuesday morning, but we wanted to give everyone a sneak peek today.
For some background, 186 Communications designs and manages state of the art networking infrastructures for some of the world’s largest enterprises. With dual diverse routes out of Boston and connections to Montreal, 186 Communications is one of the largest dark fiber providers in the Northeast.
BOSIX, housed at Markley Group, is New England’s ultimate hub for creating and developing IP peering partner relationships. Various service points are interconnected around Greater Boston by a vast array of optical fiber. By sharing the cost of a connection to the Internet2 network and establishing a high-performance regional exchange for participants and commodity Internet service providers, virtually unlimited bandwidth can be made available to serve the growing needs of 186 Communications.
186 Communications chose Markley’s BOSIX for its use of carrier-class gear from Juniper and its 1 Gbit/s and 10 Gbit/s connection offerings for both IPv4 and IPv6. Adding BOSIX as a service point helps 186 Communications further optimize network performance, as it is designed to reduce latency and lower costs by eliminating network hops and bypassing intermediary networks. At BOSIX, data center customers and the company’s 75+ domestic and international network provider partners can easily interconnect with one another across a carrier-class switching fabric.
“We at Markley are thrilled that 186 Communications has decided to join the impressive roster of Boston Internet Exchange participants. Their decision to join BOSIX continues to add value to our ever-growing eco-system of peers, making it the only premier internet exchange market in New England,” said Jeffrey D. Markley, CEO of Markley Group.
