Summer is flying by – can you believe it’s almost August? – but the team at Markley Group isn’t letting the warm weather or beach days slow us down. As always, we’re full speed ahead, attending and speaking at conferences, hosting Meet @ Markley events, and lending our knowledge and expertise to industry outlets and articles. Here is a recap of what we’ve been up to and where our team has been featured these past few months.
Conferences and Connections
Markley Group prides itself on attending and participating in the industry’s leading conferences and events, and this summer has been no exception. In May, Markley Group CTO, Patrick Gilmore, attended the MIT Sloan CIO Symposium and participated on the panel, “Security and Privacy in the Digital Enterprise.” Following the event, Patrick’s comments and panel contributions were featured in GigaOm, IDG News Service, SearchCIO, and others.
Patrick wasn’t the only one getting in on the conference fun. Last month, Chris McLean, Professional Engineer and Director of Design for Markley Group, traveled down to Virginia for the Bisnow 2014 DICE Conference, the nation’s leading data center investment conference and expo, to discuss what’s driving demand, what’s driving costs and how deals are getting put together. You can read more about his panel discussion on the Markley blog.
Meet @ Markley Events
It’s not just industry events that are keeping the Markley Group team busy. We’ve continued to host our monthly Meet @ Markley events, where members of the community can come to the Markley One Summer Street offices to hear from industry professionals on today’s most pressing and important data center topics.
Our May Meet @ Markley was lead by Markley’s own Patrick Gilmore, who discussed peering on the internet. For our June event, we welcomed ClearSky Data, an early-stage, stealth company that is working on a solution for enterprise infrastructure, to discuss innovative models that will make cloud storage actually work in the enterprise space.
Markley Group Coverage
There is no doubt that industry events are important to Markley Group, but we’re also incredibly proud of our team’s regular contributions to key publications and outlets. Most recently, Markley Group’s Chris McLean spoke with SearchDataCenter on how data centers can plan for the unexpected. He said, “You have to know your limits and have a good team. When you select a colocation provider, they are an extension of your staff. Go to a place that offers what you need and you can rely on in emergencies.”
Similarly, Markley Group’s SVP and CLO, Devon Cutchins, wrote an article for Datamation on how businesses can successfully tier data in the cloud. His key piece of advice: “[take] the time to understand the data you want to store in the cloud, which tier it best fits in, how often you’ll need to access it, its place among your business activities, and the features you require to store it…” Read Devon’s entire article here.
